Frequently Asked Questions
Questions About Us
100% yes. We are perfectionists when it comes to the quality of our jewelry, and that starts with our sourcing. We work with suppliers who abide by the Kimberley Process, so we only work with conflict-free materials. Rest assured—we would never work with or sell a conflict diamond or gemstone. We’re fully committed to caring for the environment, maintaining high ethical standards, practicing sustainable sourcing methods, and using recycled gold.
Yes! We use a wide variety of natural diamonds and gemstones, and most of our engagement rings can also be made with lab-grown diamonds if you prefer. All of our pieces are also made with solid 14k gold or platinum (or vermeil, where noted).
Our jewelers work at our studios in Andover, Massachusetts and Lexington, Kentucky. Though it's not a traditional, brick-and-mortar storefront, we do have a showroom at our Andover location. We don’t have regular store hours, however, we offer a limited number of in-person appointment times each week. For details please contact our customer care team at questions@melaniecasey.com.
Design and Ordering
It depends! Some customization options, like combining two of our designs or altering prong placement, are possible. We do not make significant alterations to our designs or attempt to recreate designs from other sources. Because we specialize in handcrafting a wide variety of unique and made-to-order pieces, Melanie is careful to ensure that each element of the design is intentional and meant to enhance the beauty and structure of the piece. We do accept certain custom design requests with a budget of $30,000 or higher, depending on Melanie’s availability.
Talk with a Customer Care Specialist if you’d like to discuss customization options.
For engagement ring designs, the answer will almost always be “Yes!”
Send us an email at questions@melaniecasey.com to start that conversation.
We do not work with moissanite but our bestselling engagement rings offer lab-grown diamond focal options. Check out our lab-grown diamond engagement ring collection. If an engagement ring you’re interested in doesn’t have that option, we may be able to use a lab-grown diamond focal for it, upon request only. Talk with a Customer Care Specialist. Learn more about lab-grown diamonds here.
Learn More About Lab-Grown DiamondsSapphires aren’t graded the same way that diamonds are because they’re different! Sapphires are graded with an emphasis on color saturation and the GIA reports aren’t quite as comprehensive as those for diamonds. Most of our sapphires made for engagement rings are already certified. If your desired sapphire is not certified, we’re happy to accommodate that request if you’d like to pay the $250 GIA charge.
Sometimes! At this time, we are able to work with client-supplied diamonds or sapphires that are graded by GIA, IGI, or EGL. Please note that the designs we are able to use to reset your diamond may differ based on the cut of the stone. We cannot accept these projects from our international clients, but we hope to be able to in the near future! Connect with one of our Customer Care Specialists for a quote and more information about our specific policies.
We do not sell our settings without the center stone. Quality is our top priority, and that’s why we present completed pieces, from our hands to yours. Each engagement ring is set by our expert jewelers, and we keep the entire process in-house to ensure our high quality standards are met.
We are so sorry that happened! When those pieces sell, they’re (almost always) out of stock, but there’s a chance that we happen to have the stone(s) you need. Start by asking one of our Customer Care Specialists about the piece you were interested in. It really depends on the availability of the stones.
We love dreaming up new designs, and our collections are ever-changing. So be sure to check our New Arrivals Collection to find the pieces that are fresh from the jewelers’ bench, each Friday at 10am EST.
We do! The Silhouette Box is Melanie Casey’s exclusive home try-on kit. Each Silhouette Box contains costume replicas of engagement rings or wedding bands from our collection. After choosing your desired Silhouette Box, you’ll pay a $200 deposit plus shipping. Keep your Silhouette Box for a week and then send it back to us using the return envelope provided. Once we receive your returned Silhouette Box, we will issue a $200 gift card to the email address on file to use in the purchase of your Melanie Casey ring! Unfortunately at this time, the Silhouette Box is only available for U.S. clients.
Please note: these pieces are made by an outside manufacturer and do not represent the quality or craftsmanship of our fine jewelry collection.
Sizing
No problem! We can help. Our (fully refundable) Perfect Fit Ring Sizer is exactly what you need.
Find Your Perfect FitDon’t worry—you can purchase your ring now and select "Mail me a sizer" in the size drop-down menu. That tells our team to hold off on the sizing until you’ve had a chance to try out the sizer.
We don’t recommend it. Sizing varies from jeweler to jeweler. Instead, use our Perfect Fit Ring Sizer to avoid having to send your ring back for resizing.
Find Your Perfect FitShipping
We have two different packaging options. We offer our signature big, beautiful acrylic box for any unboxing that merits a little extra flair. If you prefer understated packaging, select the eco box at check out. It’s significantly smaller than the acrylic box, but is just as lovely and 100% recyclable. If you’d like to add an extra level of customization to the purchase of any ring, we have velvet ring boxes available for purchase in a variety of different colors.
Our timelines vary depending on bench capacity and the collection you order from. Made to Order (MTO) pieces require involved benchwork, and take a few months to ship. Sized to Order (STO) jewelry only requires minor benchwork and can therefore be shipped within a couple weeks. In stock Ready to Ship (RTS) pieces are just that, ready to ship! They can be shipped in a matter of days. If you are purchasing something available for Pre-Order, it is not yet available and will therefore have a longer wait time depending on when the design goes into production.
Each individual product listing will have an estimated ship date. Contact Customer Care for clarification on current expected timelines.
We love surprises! To remain discreet, our shipping labels do not include our business name in the return address and our packages will not mention the word "jewelry".
Looking for a workaround? Consider sending it to your workplace or a friend’s house. As long as an adult is present to sign for your package, we can ship it to any permanent address.
No problem! Just shoot us an email at questions@melaniecasey.com, and our shipping coordinator can help you redirect your package or have the nearest sorting facility hold it for you.
Important Note: Due to insurance restrictions, we have to handle the redirecting and communicating with our shipping partners for you.
Returns and Resizing
We accept returns and exchanges for every piece in our regular collections, within 14 days of receipt. Items must be returned in unworn condition and all paperwork (including the GIA certificate, if applicable) must be returned as well. After 14 days, all sales are final.
Since our designs are handmade, returns will incur a 10% restocking fee. This fee covers the labor required to resize and polish the returned piece. If the returned piece requires extensive cleaning or repair (or is in any other condition that prevents resale) we will charge a higher restocking fee, depending on the amount of repair work that’s required.
If you purchase a piece on sale or as part of an incentive, our return policy is different. These pieces may be returned within 14 days of receipt for a refund in the form of a Melanie Casey virtual gift card for the full amount paid.
If you wish to exchange your piece, we will apply the full amount of your original purchase to a new purchase of equal or greater value. The new piece must be available to purchase at the time of the exchange, within 14 days of original purchase. The credit does not apply to future purchases, and the credit is limited to one exchange per piece.
Please contact us before you send your jewelry back, so we can be sure it arrives safely. Clients are responsible for return shipping costs, and we highly recommend that you insure your package—we are not responsible for items that get lost in the mail.
We offer free resizes, you just pay for shipping! First, complete a Ring Resize Request form. The $10.50 you’ll see at checkout covers the return shipping. Then, send your ring to us. Please contact us before you send your jewelry back, so we can be sure it arrives safely. We highly recommend that you insure your package—we are not responsible for items that get lost in the mail. Please note: our resizing services are for Melanie Casey rings only. We do not resize rings made by other artists.
Our current timeline for resizing requests is 4-6 weeks from the time we receive your ring.
Clients are responsible for shipping costs both ways (and for international clients that includes customs fees).
Ring sizing is not universal. We highly recommend using our Perfect Fit Ring Sizer. It’s a metal sizer and the best way to ensure that your jewelry will fit perfectly on the first try. When you’re done, you can return the Perfect Fit Ring Sizer Kit to us so we can recycle it, and we’ll issue you a $50 digital MC gift card.
Our website is designed to offer half sizes by default. If you would prefer a quarter size measurement, just contact our Customer Care Team and we can take care of that change for you!
While we have your ring for the resize, we’ll complete a full inspection. As part of our process, we'll automatically take care of any minor issues related to ordinary wear and tear. If we need to do any work that goes beyond that, we’ll send you an intake form. Then, with your approval, we'll re-perfect your ring.
In the case of some metal bands, we may simply exchange the original ring for an identical ring in your size instead of resizing. Why? If either a) it would result in a faster turnaround time, or b) if the integrity of the design would be affected. Of course, we’ll always contact you if we recommend that route.
Please Note: If you chose the “Eternity Band” style option for your ring, resizing incurs a $100 fee (as opposed to our standard complimentary service). But we’ll automatically send you a free Perfect Fit Ring Sizer so that we can all be sure of your size. You will be required to email us to confirm your ring size before we can begin production on your piece.
